[5a top] R’ Yochanan: Even in His Holy ones, He does not put all his trust in (as He is ‘worried’ that they will not continue on the proper path always). R’ Chaim Shmuelevitz: When one sins, the punishment is not the only concern as there then becomes more of an inkling to do it again. Even though Teshuva helps to forgive the sin itself, there much be much more effort to work to eliminate the created tendencies towards sin.

E’s Lesson: As we near Rosh Hashona, we must work on not just doing right and wrong, but on perfecting our character traits as well. By doing further good we can ‘condition’ ourselves to act and think more appropriately in many additional situations.
