DRESS to IMPRESS
[23a bottom] Rava, while in mourning, once went outside wearing a new Red Roman shirt [he holds in accordance with R’ Elazer son of Shimon who says that a mourner may only not wear new White clothing].
R’ Rosner: Throughout Shas GM’ we are made aware of three different colors of clothing, Red, Black, and White. While red and black might have been more common colors worn, white was generally saved for various special occasions (like a Bride, and Yom Kippur dress).
E’s Lesson: When we feel like elevating ourselves, we should make our dress match our insides. This is why on Shabbos we should specifically wear White shirts. Additionally, aside from any particular color of clothing, we should always dress in ways that are not only modest but professional looking as well. We are special as Jews and our actions and dress should reflect that we are the chosen proper children of Hashem.
