LAVATORIES

[33a top] R’ Yehudah describes how to get around the prohibition of building on YomTov (which is normally done from the bottom up), to first hold a roof and then erect its supporting walls. This case was brought to contrast a previous case of a temporary bathroom made by standing two stone walls to then use to sit upon and relieve oneself.

E’s Lesson: Compared to the “old-school” bathrooms, we (with modern plumbing and toilet paper) live greater than even kings did back then! We get spoiled with all our luxuries and view them as necessities. We should stop complaining about what we want and what we do not have and give up our ‘sense of entitlement.’ Rather, we must take a step back and Thank Hashem for everything that we DO have.
