יום ד Date: 23 Nissan, 5774 (4/23/14) – Beitzah#24 {Tani}

[ A+ ] /[ A- ]

ORIGINS

[24a bottom] Gemarah: An object of timely questionable preparation is prohibited to be used on YomTov because it may have been prepared on the Holiday (sone permit, but we are stringent here).

T’s lesson#1: We should always be exact in our preparations. There should never be a question of permissibility. Make sure to always know where our food comes from and how it gets prepared.

FOCUS

[24b top] Rav: One should never absent himself from the study hall even for a moment. Once, he and a colleague were studying under the same Rabbi and were taught different rulings at night and during the day and only one colleague heard the second daytime ruling mentioned (which resulted in a more stringent ruling).

T’s lesson#2: Although most of us are not on the level to study all day and night at the Beis Medrash (study hall), we should fully comprehend that which we learn when we do study Torah. Then, we will not misinterpret Halachik (Jewish law) rulings [ie: when doing daf yomi with artscroll, do not just flip through pages and skim read, really try to understand (even using notes) what we are learning to draw proper conclusions].
