[83b bottom] R’ Elazar learned a law from the fact that the torah uses the longer word of “כריתות ” instead of using the shorter word of “כרת.”

Prac-T-cal Tidbits: We should always be careful with all our words. There are those who even explain that we are each only given a specific number of words in this world and when we use them up, we are done. We should carefully calculate each word we speak and evaluate if some things are best left unsaid [aside from the obvious violations of Lashon Hara and other types of forbidden speech].
