WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS

[78b bottom] Gemarah: A woman widow sought to keep her previous properties out of the reach of her prospective husband, so she wrote them over as a gift to her daughter. After her marriage did not work out, she sought to get the her properties back, but R’ Nachman tore up her document (as he ruled that the transfer was invalid since the mother never actually intended for her daughter to keep the properties).

Prac-T-cal Tidbits: We should always keep in mind that once we enter into a marriage, we create ‘joint accounts.’ We have to put our selfish attitudes aside and stay true to Pirkei Avos’ pious teaching of, “What’s mine is yours, and what’s yours is yours.”
