RELATIVELY SPEAKING

[18b bottom] Rashas (explaining Tosephos): The reason that relatives may not testify against/with each other is not just due to the fact that they might be impartial, but rather because it is a derivation from the Biblical verses [even if Moshe and Aharon (two of our greatest leaders, who would certain never lie) came to testify together, we would not listen to their statements as two witnesses].

D-E-ep Thoughts: Many times in Judaism we think we may know the reason for our commandments. But, we are never in fact able to fully comprehend the spiritual knowledge and holiness associated with each law. Therefore, even if we assume a “reason” for a commandment does not apply in a particular situation, that does not enable us to nullify a Mitzvah/Aveirah (positive or negative commandment). We must always remember that G-d gives us the Torah and its laws for us to live the best lives possible, He always loves us more than we can ever imagine, and He knows what is best for us in every situation.
