Surfaces for Holiness

[25a middle] R’ Tachlifa: R’ Huna once wanted to sit on a bed that had a Torah on it, but instead he inverted a jug and placed the scroll there, which allowed him to sit on the bed.
Rama: This prohibition also applies to any sacred text. We may not sit on a seat, bed, or bench that has a sacred text upon it (ie: a Chumash , Navi, etc).

T’s Lesson: We must be careful to have respect for all sacred texts. We should always ensure that we treat Holy things as Holy. We should ensure that our Seforim have proper storage on shelves or tables, and that we are not sitting on the same surfaces as they are. Also, we must make sure that Holy writings ate treated with dignity and not thrown around, G-d forbid.
