When one makes G-d serve him rather than him serving G-d, he is undermining his purpose of creation and does not deserve to live. Shabbos is the reason that the work week was created. The whole reason we work all week is to rest on the 7th day [this idea is parallel to our whole life of work to achieve and rest fulfilled in the next world \u201cMayain Olam Haba\u201d]. When we undermine the reason for the week and creation of Shabbos, we are selfishly negating G-d\u2019s creations and this is why it is equated to serving idols.
