“LISTEN” Carefully… Don’t Miss the Boat!

[28b top] Braisa: On Rosh Hashona, if one was passing behind a shul (or his house is next to a shul) and he heard the sound of the shofar [or on purim the reading of the megillah], if he has intention to fulfill his obligation it works, but if not, not.

T’s lesson: So often in life we miss the boat because we do not pay attention or listen carefully to what is happening around us or to what Hashem is saying to us. Had we been more mindful or opened our eyes or ears we could realize so much more in life and our environment. Just as the Gemarah shows: if a person passing a shul would just open his ears to have intent he would be Yotzei, so too we should pay attention to our surroundings and what Hashem shows us, so we don’t miss the boat and lose out on opportunities from Hashem.
