[27a middle] Gemara: A disciple said, “May I be privileged to go up to Israel where Rabbi Zeira lives, and learn this ruling directly from his mouth.”
R’ Adler: The Yerushalmi GM’ [Shekalim] states that one should always have the image of the author of a ruling before him. It is of utmost importance that one not only learn from those that are greater than him, but one should see the teacher of a ruling.
E’s Lesson: It is great to listen to pre-recorded Torah and lectures on audio and video, but there is no comparison to being in the same room with your Rebbi. We should always strive to involve ourselves in live dynamic relationships in order to question, grow, and be inspired to even greater levels.
