BROKEN BITS

[14b top] Gemarah: All agree (while using different sources) that the broken fragments from the first Luchos (Tablets) were also kept inside the Aron (ark).

D-E-ep Thoughts#1: The broken Luchos are kept as a reminder of what happened (with the Golden Calf sin). We need to remain humble and be able to grow from what we went through. Everything, including our ‘suffering,’ is a blessing from Hashem that helps us become who we need to be and get us where we need to go.

R’ Rosner explaining R’ Shlessinger: The first Luchos were so miraculous (which had letters floating in air and were able to be read simultaneously from both sides) that even the broken pieces were special enough to be kept. Although we do not have the Beis Hamikdash (Holy Temple) [may it be speedily rebuilt in our days], we can still go to the remaining Kotel.

D-E-ep Thoughts#2: Even if we are shattered, we can still celebrate. By clinging onto just a tiny bit of Holiness (that is always within us), we have the ability to draw closer and connect to the infinitely powerful Almighty G-d.

Today’s P.I.P. (Put Into Practice) TIP: Take a moment to humbly reflect about where we came from, appreciate and thank G-d for where we are, and make greater plans for where we want to be.
