HURTING HELPERS

[6a top] Gemarah: If a man says, “You are Ezrasi (my helper)” or “You are Negdasi (my opposition),” these are questionable verbiages and it is not known if they actually affect a marriage.
Breishis [Perek2Pasuk18]: Hashem uses these same two terminologies of  עֵזֶר כְּנֶגְדּוֹ “I will make a helper opposite him.”
R’ Rosner explaining Nitziv: The best helpers in life are the ones that give us opposition. We always need compliments, not replicas, to help us succeed.

D-E-ep Thoughts: [Since all things in our lives are only direct messages from G-d] Whenever we receive criticisms (especially from our spouses), we should recognize that they are only with love and to help us grow. If we constantly just had ‘yes-men’ complimenting all our actions, we would never achieve greatness. The best teachers, Rabbis, and friends are able to help point out our flaws and assist in redirecting our attentions properly.
