PARTING POSSESSIONS

[47a top] Reish Lakish would sit with no comforting cushions, and would spend all his money on food and drinks while never leaving any money in savings or valuables [since he spent most of his time involved in spiritual pursuits]. However, he still had the verse, “and they leave their possessions to others” applied to him, since he left a kav (small measurement) of saffron to his heirs when he passed away.

Prac-T-cal Tidbits: We should strive to live with what we need rather than living extravagantly. Instead of chasing after what our evil inclinations want, our focuses should be on living modestly while serving Hashem and investing ourselves in everlasting earnings.
