NAMING NETWORKS

[41a middle] Ami, “the pleasingly handsome,” quoting R’ Yochanan: A creditor cannot collect from a debtor’s other property if the [exclusively] designated Apotiki field (lien for a loan) was flooded.

Prac-T-cal Tidbits: We should always be careful about how we call people and what nicknames we give them. Names define the essences of characters and we should strive to help ensure production of positivity. The literal meaning of names help shape people’s lives, create their destinies, and give insight to how we should relate differently to each unique individual [ie: be extra kind to a person named “Chanan” (favor/grace) and be stronger with an “Ari” (lion)].

PROCREATING PURPOSE

[41b top] Mishnah [Beis Shammai]: A slave cannot be held back (ie: being half-free / half-slave) from marrying, because the world was created only for procreation. As the verse states, “He (G-d) did not create the world to be desolate; He formed it to be inhabited.”

Prac-T-cal Tidbits: Our true missions in life are to raise children who are filled with Torah and Mitzvos, and who are living ‘Kiddush Hashems’ (sanctifying G-d’s name). We should recognize the entire essence of our existence and populate the world with great multiplicity (unlike secular selfish views of having the fewest number of children to worry about) to increasingly glorify Hashem and bring much Holiness up from (and to) the physical universe.
