MAGNETIC MISALIGNMENTS

[107a middle] Ritva: When a husband went away (and provided household needs for only a short time) but did not end up returning until much later, it was only because he get stuck away for some time [and he did not intend to do so originally].
Klei Yakar [Vayigash]: The Jews went down to Egypt just for short stay, but they ended up getting sucked in as they enjoyed it too much.

D-E-ep Thoughts (based on R’ Rosner): In Galus (exile), we are supposed to feel like Geirim (strangers), and not get too comfortable in the environment. Jews are supposed to understand what spiritual connections they are meant to be attached to. Israel is our physical homeland and the Torah is our spiritual draw. We must always keep all our pleasures in check, and maintain proper attachments.
