WANTS vs NEEDS

[14a top] R’ Chisda: There is plenty of time to sleep when we are dead.

E’s Lesson: Many time our “necessities” (ie: sleeping, eating) become excuses for “indulgences” (ie: over-sleeping, over-eating). People try to rationalize what they want as justifying them as needs. We must always recognize what we are able to sustain ourselves with and then prioritize the rest of our lives accordingly. Additionally, when we are able to recognize we are only doing our basic needs to accomplish spiritual goals, the life-sustaining activities themselves even become Mitzvos (which we get rewarded for).
